Substance Abuse Track
The Mission of East End Substance Abuse Track Program is to provide a structured, therapeutic and community based program for at-risk youth who are in need of more intensive levels of treatment.
Program Purpose
The substance abuse program is a sub-component of the Intensive Outpatient Program. The program provides evening therapeutic treatment for adolescents with a history of psychiatric and/or substance abuse issues. This program component is delivered in four phases: Orientation, Psycho-education, Psycho-therapeutic and Aftercare Phase to address relapse prevention strategies. The Substance Abuse Tract is appropriate for any adolescent who is involved with alcohol/drug use of any level. It is also appropriate for any adolescent whose family, probation officer, case worker, etc., is concerned about possible alcohol and drug use but is unsure of the nature or extent of it.
Program Objectives
- Provides a multi-modalities approach to meeting the needs of adolescents. Treatment approach includes substance abuse counseling, individual, family and group counseling and activities to equip the client with coping skills necessary to function successfully within the family unit
- Provide family counseling to encourage client and family to participate in a focused service plan, which builds on client's strengths and addresses client/family needs
- Provides substance abuse education to assist clients in acceptance of responsibility for recovery and relapse prevention
- Provides a therapeutic environment and recognition at each phase designed to increase client decision making skills, self-esteem and self-efficacy which will enable them to avoid self-defeating and at-risk behaviors and avoidance of relapse
- Provide a competent team of professionals to administer client services and collaborate with community, referral and agency resources
Population Overview
- Limited to 20 clients, ages 13-18
- Client exhibits moderate or disabling symptoms relating to an acute psychiatric condition or an exacerbation of a severe and persistent mental disorder with ongoing and unremitting impairment in functioning
- Client is not in immediate crisis (the crisis has been stabilized and the client is ready for active treatment)
- Client exhibits moderate or disabling symptoms related to active chemical dependency associated with an addictive disorder or severe replacement relapse following a period of sobriety
- The client is not judged to be in imminent danger of withdrawal or has not recently undergone medical detoxification
