| Basic Program
East End Academy is a Therapeutic Day School Program certified by the
Virginia Department of Education to operate a a school for the emotionally
disturbed. The goal of the school is to provide its students with the necessary
academic and social skills to enable them to return to their regular school
program. Academic goals are taken from Standards of Learning for Virginia
Public Schools and individualized for each student's level of achievement,
individual interests, and learning style. Based on their age, abilities,
and individual goals, students are placed in one of the following curriculums:
Elementary, Middle, Secondary, Graded Remedial, Pre-Vocational, and Vocational
Training. Students are also provided a Social Skills training Group (Conflict
Resolution) which is designed to help young people develop positive behaviors
and strengthen their resilience to negative behavior.
Related services, such as Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, are
offered one time weekly for 45 minutes (or as deemed by the student's individual
Education Plan). These services are contracted through the local school
agency. Art Therapy and Music Expression Therapy will be offered twice
weekly for 45 minutes.
Through group and individual counseling sessions with a master level
counselor, students address social development and individual issues. Family
support services are available through bi-monthly active parenting support
groups and periodic family conferences. Services
